How to Remove Yourself from People Search Sites

People search sites collect your name, address, phone number, relatives, and other personal data from public records and display it publicly. Anyone can look you up by name and find where you live, who your family members are, and how to contact you.

The good news: most people search sites offer a free opt-out process. The bad news: you have to do it for each site individually, and your data typically reappears within 30-90 days as sites pull fresh data from public records.

Time estimate: Manually opting out of all 19 sites on this list takes 3-5 hours. Data reappears within months, requiring you to repeat the process. Safe Shepherd automates this permanently.

Why data comes back: People search sites automatically pull from county property records, voter registrations, court filings, and phone directories. Even after you opt out, the next time they ingest a public records update, your data gets re-listed. This is why manual opt-outs require ongoing maintenance every 1-3 months.

Also see: Background Check Sites

Background check sites are more dangerous than people search sites because they include criminal records, court filings, and financial data. Opt out of both categories for complete coverage.
